Thank You Rob Bell

A little over a year ago a huge controversy had hit the Christian world. There's this book authored by Rob Bell that questioned the doctrine of Hell and the Wrath of God. Personally, I didn't get to read the book, I can't really say something about it but it was controversial enough to create a loud buzz around the blogger world.

I only got to watch the promotional video that Rob Bell made before they released the book. I'm not a fan, but curiosity led me to go to YouTube and check the trailer out. I have to admit, the video in itself caused me to ask where he got these things, but I'll reserve these comments till I read his book.

There were a lot of questions that was raised here but I wouldn't discuss them. In fact I wouldn't discuss the book here or what Rob Bell might be saying or what my say is on these matters. Maybe on another post, but this post is all about thanking Rob Bell for this.

Almost a year after the release of the Love Wins trailer, I can already see something good coming out of this controversy. And eversince the book came out detailed discussions and massive amount of materials about Hell came into being. Bloggers came out in a rush with hands held high screaming to protest Rob Bell's theology while peers sought to debate the matter among each other. And there have been a number of books that came out as a direct response to Love Wins (God Wins by Mark Galli) to a book that is carefully written to immerse in the topic related to the character of God (Erasing Hell by Francis Chan).

Discussions, blogs and these books wouldn't be written if it wasn't for Love Wins. Personally, I'm excited to read about Francis Chan's book since I know how the man would delve into things like this in a careful manner and I know how he likes to keep things close to scripture if not stick with scripture. See, he wouldn't get to ask these questions or spend time studying and eventually writing about it if it wasn't for Love Wins. And these are the things why we have to be grateful for events like these. Above all, scripture would still remain true as it says that all things will work together for good (Romans 8:28). We may not see it now but in the future, the ripples will reveal the good that it brings.

Yes, I want to say Thank you to Rob Bell. Because if not for his book, we would be missing out on this wave in the Christian world. We would've ended up walking through this world without stressing the reality of Hell and end up crying and praying for the people we're so powerless to save from it. It should motivate us to preach to them the good news of salvation that is the very power that would grab souls out of this thing.

And before I end this post, let me share to you Francis Chan's own trailer for his book, Erasing Hell

Soli Deo Gloria!
