The Reason for God

One of the things that we couldn't avoid during our journey in Christ would be doubt. This may come from friends, family, circumstances and even self. Doubt will always be present with us, and this is one of the things that we will always wrestle with as Christians. And this is why I would recommend anyone, either a believer or a skeptic, to read this book thoroughly. And hopefully, when you reach the end of the book, you'll eventually get to find some clarity to the questions that surround your belief.

The book consists 2 parts. The first 7 chapters would answer the critical claims that stand in front of a Christian. This section is called "The Leap of Doubt" which would answer these critiques.

1. There Can't be Just One Religion
2. A Good God Could Not Allow Suffering
3. Christianity is a Straitjacker
4. The Church is Responsible for so much Injustice
5. A Loving God wound not Send People to Hell
6. Science has Disproved Christianity
7. You Can't Take the Bible Literally.

This section would help you understand how these claims are formed and how Christianity would defend itself against its claims. If you're not a fan of philosophical readings, the first part of this book might be difficult to read and digest since these chapters are written to contradict the objections that great minds composed. You'll get to philosophies of people such as Derrida, Foucault, Freud, Nitzsche and the likes trying to uplift humanity and disprove the existence of God. A great part of this book would also discuss the allegations that Richard Dawkins, the author of The God Delusion, made to create a bigger crack on religion by means of scientific deductions. In addition, Tim Keller would call out their declarations and defend the faith in a clear, logical and philosophical way. You could probably say that Keller fought fire with fire, philosophy with philosophy and reality with reality.

The second part, entitled "The Reasons for Faith" would then take on the seven statements that the Christian faith stand on.

1. The Clues of God
2. The Knowledge of God
3. The Problem of Sin
4. Religion and the Gospel
5. The (True) Story of the Cross
6. The Reality of Resurrection
7. The Dance of God

The second part would then unpack these topics in the same way he started with this book. I found every topic and chapter explained well inch by inch that would enable an unbeliever relate to Christ. This time around, you'll be able to meet the thinkers of this team. C.S. Lewis and Jonathan Edwards are some that I could remember at this point.

The book will not leave you hanging as it tries to grab hold of your hand and guide you towards what to do next. It starts with an introduction at the beginning, intermission to bridge the leap of doubt towards the reasons of faith and an epilogue to help you where to go from there.

This book is helpful for the believers to understand doubt and guide the skeptic to a rational explanation of the faith. I hope it would challenge you dig in deeper as it did with me. My hope and prayer is that through this book, you'll be able to agree that in this life, there is indeed a reason for God.
